Naked sheep & counting down

I have now been in Australia for over 8 months, most of my time has been spent on an organic lamb station in the outback. I must say this place has gotten into my bones, and my heart.. I have fallen in love with the landscape, the feel, the sounds and the people. It has inspired me to write Leopardwood, and I’ve gotten to know myself in a whole new way. There is a lot that this experience has transformed, and I think I won’t even know the reaches of change until I can see this time of my life from a distance.

I have just over two weeks left here! I have taken a job on a boat in Brisbane, which will be the segue into the next thing. Plans are still fluid at the moment, but new adventures are in the air, and I’m excited for this as well!

Also, I have moved out of the Shearer’s Quarters for the time being, because, that space is being used as it’s meant to be used! Yes, a team is here shearing the sheep. It’s pretty great to see this process after being here so long. Over the course of 10 days or so they shear 6,000 sheep. Incredible.

The other exciting bit is we ‘did a Killer’ / killed a lamb for eating. Sounds a bit nasty doesn’t it? But, for all of us that eat meat, we should experience the process involved in getting food to our plates. I’ve been eating the organic lamb here, but hadn’t yet really seen the whole production. So, we plucked ourselves a poor little lamb and yes, killed it, SAID THANK-YOU for it’s life, skinned it, and cut it into chops, roasts etc.

I also got to go flying again!! And this time, I even got to fly the plane myself!!! Pretty great. The aerial shot is of the station from above, and inside the plane from a mile high.

Enjoying every moment here as I count down the days :)
