Good Morning Whales

Life seems pretty full of non-stop adventure, on every possible level it seems!!!! I am back in Australia, and departed yesterday afternoon on a boat named Myrtle. (Yes, just like the dog Myrtle!)

We are traveling up the coast from Sydney to the Whitsunday Islands where we are joining a sailboat for some sail racing that happens later in the month. We ran at night last night and I had a couple hour shift on my own. It’s always an interesting experience traveling on water in the dark.. watching lights… peeking your head out of the wheelhouse every once in a while to smell the air and check out the stars.. and double-check for lights from other boats, then triple-checking the radar! We had pretty calm seas and traveled until about 1am before anchoring in a bay near Port Stephens.

This morning we pulled up anchor and a few minutes later were greeted by these beautiful creatures… baleena glacialis australis, known as ‘right whales.’ They were in no hurry, and came up to us for a good look. They had huge barnacles on their heads and bodies.

All of this adventure doesn’t distract me too much from music.. as it’s always on my mind! I had a full listen to Leopardwood this morning. Mike has been emailing me with edits and progress. Very exciting!
