The Most Inspiring Place

Morning thought while drinking coffee and staring out over the ocean:
the most inspiring place to be is where you are
The above photo was taken of a fire dancer on the island of Moorea (French Polynesia). I was lucky enough to visit this gorgeous place a few weeks ago.

Coffs Harbour
Today is day 5 of our trip up the east coast of Australia. We spent yesterday in Coffs Harbour cleaning up Myrtle (the boat). De-salting, resting, re-organizing for another big day. Today we are planning to cruise through the day and night. This morning there was a Sunday farmer’s market just up the street, so we’ve stocked up on fresh local produce. Already caught and released 3 fish as well
And, little dragon is doing it for me once again. Brilliant stuff.

Hello Ocean!

New scenery! Instead of the ocean of land, it is now water. And, oh how I love water. The ocean inspires me… and I am dreaming a new soundtrack already… even as Leopardwood is a work in progress.
The Australian coastline here is beautiful, crystal clear blue green water and a shoreline of rock cliffs and sand. This morning we caught 2 flathead fish and a squid before 7:30am.. so we had fish for breakfast! And last night we had tuna that I reeled in the day before (pictured).
I kayaked to shore, and went for a run along the beach… I was thinking, how lucky am I to experience all this? Blue waves to my left and sand dunes to my right.
Reading a book about Jessica Watson‘s solo sail around the world.
Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines.Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Catching Dust

This virtual collaboration thing is pretty exhilarating. I sent ‘the album’ in it’s rawest of rawness… (wav files mixed by ME) to Mike extraordinaire who will be taking on the technical and creative facilitation here onwards. It has been warmly received, and it seems like we are all happy to be making this album!! Very exciting
It inspires me.
Currently gallivanting on the coast of Australia on a beautiful boat. Yes, I am pinching myself. Life is good.
On the topic of nautical and musical lives combined… I am reading Blowing my own Trumpet by James Morrison (one of Australia’s best known jazz musicians). The following is a great little excerpt.
Have you ever sat in the morning and watched the sun streaming through a window in an otherwise dark room? You can see the dust floating in the air – in the intense light it sparkles like a million tiny jewels dancing around each other. I would try again and again to catch these gems in my hand, sometimes going for the quick swipe (to catch them unawares), sometimes moving glacially so that they wouldn’t be frightened away. I even tried moving my hand through the light while looking the other way, just in case it was my watching that caused them to skitter off. No matter what I did, when I opened my clenched fist there was nothing there. I cried over this inability to catch and hold somthing so beautiful, so elusive.
It was only many years later that I understood what this was all about. Of course I had ‘caught’ the dust every time I moved my hand, it was just that I couldn’t see it. I had thought it would still sparkle when viewed on the palm. In my teens, when frustrated over certain aspects of music, I remembered the dust and finally realized that whatever I wanted I already had, I just had to see it.
